The True Voice

The true voice of Christ in our hearts will always lead us to the path of daily self-denial. This is the experience of all who have committed themselves to the guidance of the "still small voice,"-our inward Monitor. We find that He always leads us directly through the obstacles, and by that "narrow way," where we need His wisdom, His strong arms, and His sure step to proceed. We have found that in order to follow Him it is indispensably necessary for us to resist our own desires and to put to death those perverted selfish principles, which are a part of our "natural self."

When Jesus said, "If any man would come after me, he must take up his cross and follow me" --- He intended to impress upon us that in order to be His disciples, we must be willing even to physically die for His name sake. None of us can follow the Lamb of God where ever He goes without being conformed to His sufferings ---- without dying ourselves to the uncontrolled desires of this world, the sins of following after our own leadings, and the pride that is flaunted before Him in our obsessive need to run our own life.

Let us not fear this death, nor try to hide from the cross of Christ. He who commands us has only our highest good in mind, and He will make it bearable. It is the enemy of our soul who is trying to point out the pain and magnify it out of proportion, and is feeding us fear of how difficult it will be to bear it. But to the dependent, simple, yet decided Christian, the commands of Jesus become easy and the result is peace that is not understood by those who don't have it.
