Early Saturday morning we went to the Old City through the Damascus Gate. This is in the Palestinian sector.

While heading into the city we were stopped by Kadir, who insisted on fresh squeezing some orange juice with some fresh grapefruit. Jim had coffee, which left a lot of thick “residue” in the bottom of the cup. We spent so much time talking with him in an outside restaurant above this first scene, that we had to leave to go back to the Hotel to get ready to go to Emmaus.

This is a church built by the Crusaders. It in Emmaus, where Jesus talked to the two men on the road.

The inside of the church has wonderful acoustics, so we sang “Amazing Grace” and we sounded quite beautiful.

These are pictures of Caiaphas’ house. The next are pictures of the excavated caves, which are a dungeon
where Jesus was held. The holes in the walls attached to irons. Probably six to eight men held here in this small place.

These stones have been excavated down to the original stones that Jesus walked on when led from Caiaphas’ house down to Pilate’s judgment hall.

This is looking from the Mount of Olives to the Temple Mount. The Muslim Dome of the Rock is on the Temple Mount. The Kidron Valley is in the middle. The graves in front are of Hassidic Jews, the only ones that can be buried here. They bury them here because it is the highest mountain in Jerusalem.

This church was built on the spot which is thought to be the home of Mary, Martha and Lazarus. The artifacts were excavated from this site. We could have walked to this sight from the Mount of Olives, but because of the wall the Israelis are building, we had to drive quite a ways around it and come into Bethany from the back side.
There will be more info about this wall later. When Jesus would go to Jerusalem, He would never stay there for the night, but come back to Bethany.

This is the Garden of Gethsemane which is east of the Temple Mount. These trees are well over 2,000 years old.

“The Church of the Nations” was built by 12 different nations. It is right beside the Garden of Gethsemane. The stone, which is in the church, is thought to be where Jesus prayed. We have many more pictures of this church.

The windows and mosaics are amazing.
As you can see, we had a busy day. The food here is wonderful!!!!! There are twelve of these windows in the church and they all form a cross. We love you all.
