We started the day going to the Lutheran Church in Old Jerusalem.
This is the courtyard of the Church.
More of the courtyard and halls overlooking the courtland.
These photos are from the Armenian Section of Old Jerusalem. The arch is the entry to the Armenian church.
David's Citadel where whoever conquered Israel set up their headquarters.
We chanced upon the procession of Greek Orthodox priests entering the Church of the Holy Seplechur. There
bells ringing and was quite dramatic. There many churches that claim a part this church. Catholic, Greek Orthodox,
Anglican, etc. They all have chapels and sights inside the building. This church is over the sight of Golgotha and the tomb of Jesus.
Entrance to the church and inside.
The first picture is of the supposed rock on Golgotha. THe next picture is the Catholic structure over the rock. Catholics crawl down to the picture under the altar, there they pray and touch the image. The rock is under the picture, also.
The first image is a stone thought to be where they laid Jesus to prepare Him for burial. The Greek Orthodox Church
members either kiss this stone or lay a palm branch on it and pray. We saw many people kiss it. The next picture is of the entrance the tomb. You have to try to imagine this is Jesus' day. It is really hard because of all the trapping around it.
There is also another sight in Jerusalem called the "Garden Tomb" where it looked much like it would have in Jesus' time. We have not gone there yet, but will send pictures later.
This is inside the tomb. Hard to get around all the Catholice icons.
We then headed to the Jewish quarter of the Old City. There my camera ran out of battery. The Jewish quarter is quite different from the others. Much cleaner and many new buildings. We went to the Wailing Wall and the entrance to the Temple Mount. We plan to revisit these places and have pictures of them. We went back to the Hotel and rested. Dinner at 6:00 included a talk by World Vision and what they are doing to help the Palistinian people. More about that later. We are so blessed to be here and still looking forward to all God has for us to experience and process.
